As a first entry I thought I would share a little bit about myself to help you understand where my views and interests come from. Like most males of my generation I grew up in a time when sports were simpler to follow and participate in.
As a youth I would play 3 or 4 sports a year and they would all be based on the season. In watching my son and daughter grow up, I find it hard to believe that so many kids are forced to participate in a specific sport year round or else they risk falling behind. This is troublesome to me. I can understand beginning the specialization process when one approaches the teenage years but does a 7, 8 or 9 year old really need to focus on one thing?
I follow college sports more than the professional sports leagues although I do follow the local professional teams in my city and most of the professional championships. I can't get enough of the Final Four and I do love the bowl games. I am old school and don't want a playoff in college football. That is a topic that can be discussed another day. In addition I follow the major sporting events as they come up. Think Super Bowl, World Cup, Olympics (hopefully live via a Canadian broadcast), America's Cup, Wimbledon, Masters, etc...
My goal for this blog is to offer my opinion on various sports stories and general interest topics. Sports will be the central focus but I will opine on general interest stories that I think will be of value to the audience. From time to time I will try to post some images of ladies that may or may not have a connection to sports. This seems almost like a requirement for today's sports blogs. I guess you could say I hope to create a worthwhile place for people to stop by who wish to delve into sports stories.
